San Giuseppe and Casa Newman
His Eminence late Cardinal Ivan Dias played a major role in the opening of this Convent in the heart of Rome. His Eminence was the Prefect of the Congregation of Faith as well as the Head of Propaganda Fide.
There were changes in the echelons of Propaganda Fide and some of the decisions affected us at San Paulo. There was a reduction in the number of Sisters working in San Paulo, His Eminence found a placement for two of them at San Guiseppe a center for Catechists and now the Collegio San Guseppe accommodates Priests on a Sabbatical, retaining our two Sisters. His Eminence, also had plans to help us out in the near future. This dream was materialised in the opening of Casa Newman.
On July 29, 2011, His Eminence inaugurated and blessed Cassa Newman in the presence of Mons. Geuvani Viale, Mons. Tong, Members of the Propaganda Fide and the throng of the CCR’s. His joy overflowed in music and a solo as well as a great spread for the invitees.
On August 10, 2021 the pioneers Sr. Nascimenta Rodrigues, Sr. Christina Mendes and Sr. Gladys P.G. commenced their service and started to reside in a comfortable flat, well furnished by His Eminence. As Cardinal Eminence stayed in the same building, the Sisters found a benevolent patron and guide in their initial days. As per the contract signed with Propaganda Fidi, the Sisters served the Priest who were working in Piazza De Spagna. The service rendered fell in line with our Charism.
We place on record our indebted gratitude to the great and eminent Cardinal Lourdasamy and Cardinal Ivan Dias. Sr. Mary Frances testifies to the fact that Cardinal Ivan Dias in the memorable three encounters with him, reiterated his love for the Indian CCR’s and his promise to place us in Casa Newman. The last meeting was in the hospital and his love and promise was evident. To our revered Cardinals we promise to carry on the mission as best as we can.
