CASA ALBERGO ACHILLE
located in South Italy has an interesting history of a center for outreach to the folks in dire distress according to the needs of the time.
The post World War I period witnessed great suffering among the peasants especially the aged and disable. The parish priest of the cathedrel of Larino, Don Pasquale Morrone opened an orphanage in 1927. It was closed after a period due to phasicity of funds.
In 1946, the orphanage was converted to CASA DI RIPOSO (Home for the Aged), by the Bishop. In the very same year Achille Morrone, a benefactor bequeathed the Home and the lands to the institute after his death.
In 1950 the Home gained due recognition and the administration was handed over to the Muncipality. The Franciscan Sisters who used to assist in the Home from 1992 left for good in 1995. The administrators felt the need of replacement with the Sisters as they were considered ‘ministering angels’.
In a wonderful godincidence, our late Sr. M. Kilda and themCCR’s were on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It is in this hallowed place they met Don. Giovanni from Larino. He put the proposal of having our Sisters to work in the Home for the Aged. Our late, Mother General – Mother . M. Angela was open and positive for this mission.
His Excellency, Monsg. Domenico D’Ambrosio the Bishop of Termoli, Larino sent the official letter of invitation. In 1995 on September 24, the pioneering community of Sr. M. Seraphim as Superior and Sr. Alphonsa K.T and and Sr. Berice Gonsalves were installed in the Home at Larino.
Inauguration on 24th September 1995
This was the last foundation of our dynamic, charismatic General as our beloved leader passed away in
September 25, 1995.
To date, the Institute is now called Fondazione Achille Morrone Onlus.
Over the decades, the CCR’s have been lauded for their dedicated service and now are an integral part of the institution.
